How to Qualify for the National Games

Step 1: Verify Your Eligibility

To compete in the 2025 Australian National Games presented by Toyota Motor Group, athletes must be at least 16 years old by December 31, 2024. Overseas participants can also compete in the ANG 2024-25

Step 2: Review the Rules for Your Sport

Each sport has its own qualification guidelines, which can be found in the Australian National Games rule book. You can also view an overview of qualification methods by sport on this grid. For most sports, athletes must qualify by competing in a State Senior Games event(Australia or overseas)in the even-numbered year prior to the Australian National Games. For example, to participate in the 2025 Games, athletes need to qualify in 2024.

The general ways to qualify include:
Placing : Athletes in most sports must finish in the top four of their age group at a Qualifying State Senior Games.
Minimum Performance Standards (MPS) : Some sports allow athletes to qualify by meeting or exceeding the MPS for their age at an Australian National Games Member Games.
Open Sports : Some events are open to all eligible participants without the need for qualification.

Step 3: Find a Qualifying Senior Games Event

Step 4: Receive Your Qualification Notice

Once you participate in a qualifying event, the results will be sent to theAustralian National Games office for verification. Afterward, qualified athletes will receive a notification from the Australian National Games with information about registration for the event.
